The Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, has repeated call on residents to avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse.

Speaking in Awka, the Managing Director of the Authority, Mr Amechi Akorah said this would enable the state to maintain clean and healthy environment.

Paul Ezeoke reports that Mr Akorah said the agency in collaboration with youths has cleared and disposed the huge waste generated during the ENDSARS protests hijacked by hoodlums who burnt tires and destroyed some property.

He explained that the exercise cut across all parts of Awka capital territory as well as other towns and cities as directed by Governor Willie Obiano and regretted that the hoodlums equally vandalized one of its vehicles at Amaenyi.

Mr Akorah said ASWAMA, has equally intensified routine and regular collection, disposal and management of waste while road sweepers were also back on their duty posts.

He disclosed that the protest disrupted the Agency’s bi-weekly outreach in communities during which it collaborate with members of the community to clean up and evacuate waste from the area.

In their separate reactions, a trader, Mrs Nkiru Agba and a resident, Mr Osita Anyadiugwu, commended the agency for its prompt interventions in cleaning up the environment after the protests.
