Agriculture is gradually gaining government attention both at state and federal levels because of its importance as the sustainable source of income to reduce over dependence on the dwindling crude oil market.
This agricultural revolution has also witnessed many support schemes like the provision of loans, grants and other forms of financing to enable farmers build their businesses.
It is in line with these recorded successes and the search for collaborative efforts that the Youth Wing of Anambra State chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, paid a familarization visit to the Anambra State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Awka.
Blessing Uchendu reports that All farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, is a non-governmental organization whose interest is centered on building and strengthening the structure of youth farmers in Nigeria and Anambra State, for easy access, mobilization and management.
Making their presentation during the visit, the Anambra State Chairman of the Association, Honourable Chisom Onugha, said the that aim of the visit was to call on the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra State to be one of their state patrons, noting that through the partnership they will be carefully guided, supported and encouraged in order to be viable to gain government intervention.
Honourable Onugha, commended the Anambra State government for prioritizing agriculture in the state, and explained that through their platform, development and management of data of youths practicing agriculture in various commodity value chain will be achieved while profiling and mapping of youths expertise in the areas of comparative farming, boosting employment and export will equally be achieved.
Receiving the team, the Anambra State Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damien Okeke-Ogene, lauded the Group for choosing agriculture despite their academic qualifications ,adding that the state government is encouraging the youths to key into agriculture because it is profitable.
Chief Okeke-Ogene observed that before the emergence of COVID-19, the Obiano administration had already repositioned and reinvented the state agricultural sector and attracted huge investments that commendably increased the state rice production capacity and empowered low income farmers in cultivation of other crops and livestock farming.
Other members of AFAN team that made the visit were Messers Chinedu Udoh, Morgan Nnadi, Leonard Nwadike, Francis Ezeka and Emmanuel Uzodimma.
