The tradition, customs and culture of Ndi Enugwu-Aguleri were brought to fore over the weekend, as their traditional ruler, Eze Chukwuemeka Eri marks the 2020 Olili Obibia Eri.
The festival which is an annual event was to accord respect and recognize to their progenitor ‘Eri‘ the fifth son of biblical Gad as the father of Aguleri, Ndi Igbo and beyond.
Olili Obibia Eri takes place in onwa isato of the Igbo native calendar, in remembrance of sojourn of Eri in that area as they believe that Eri is the father of Igbo race.
The feast which started with a visit at Agbanabo Ezu na Omabala river around five o’clock in the morning by Eze Eri signifying where their progenitor stopped before entering into Aguleri to settle, saw him praying, cleansing and watching away evil things from Aguleri land and all that inherited Eri gene.
Eze Chukwuemeka Eri upon returned from Agbanabo Ezu na Omabala to Ama Obu Gad performed the kola-nut traditions where he prayed their ancestors to bless all Aguleri sons and daughters.
The traditional ruler of Aguleri, Eze Michael Idigo and his Eziagulu Otu Aguleri counterpart, Eze Lawrence Nwofia and that of Mkpunando Aguleri, Eze Johnson Mbanefo while highlighting the importance of the festival to every onye-Aguleri, said they do come together to accord respect to their progenitor as descendants of Eri, noting that they see it as very spiritual and explained that visiting the river was to welcome the spirit of their father Eri.
The chairman of Ojiana Uno Aguleri, Ichie Okechukwu Dibua, thanked God for the celebration which he said they normally do to seek the face of Eri and prayed for their well-being, commending Aguleri World Forum and the Aguleri National Youth Association, for organizing the event.
On his part, the President, Aguleri National Youth Association ANYA, Comrade Nnamdi Ikeli-Adimora, said their community is known for peace and hospitality which they will uphold calling on the youths to be law abiding and project their community in a good light.
Eze Chukwuemeka Eri used the opportunity to confer chieftaincy title on the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Chief Obi Nweke and Chief Boniface Ilegbunem of Umuoba Anam.
Masquerade display and other side attractions added glamour to the event.
