Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has joined their counterparts across the globe to commemorate this year’s African Road Safety Day and World Day Remembrance for traffic victims.
The event came into existence through the United Nations Resolution in 2005 and adopted by African Union decision in 2015.
Correspondent Queen Anigbogu reports that the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, said the weeklong activities are dedicated to highlight on the issues of road crash which include loss of lives and the sufferings people go through as a result of road crashes.
He said that statistics around the globe revealed that road crashes stand at one point three five million annually.
The Sector Commander noted that in response, the Federal Road Safety Corps initiated road safety devices such as speed limiters for commercial vehicles, trainings and retrainings of drivers, establishing of driving schools among others.
He said there is an urgent need to address the menace through appropriate measures adding that the Federal Road Safety Corps is happy to join relevant stakeholders to create necessary awareness in the week long activities to address the challenges.
Speaking on the preparedness of the Command this ember months, Mr.
Kumapayi assured that Federal Road Safety Corps officials will be on ground round the clock to provide quality services to Nigerians on the road.
