The Anambra state Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor has reconfirmed that Anambra state government is the sole financier of the ongoing construction of international cargo airport project at Umueri, in Anambra East Local Government Area.

Engineer Ifejiofor gave the reconfirmation while fielding questions from news men during a media briefing at the Government House Awka.

According to Engineer Ifejiofor, the Chinese company that signed MOU with the state government did not show up as planned which he said brought about delay in the commencement of the project until Governor Obiano took decision to take up the project.

He said that the decision to build the airport was in the best interest of Ndi Anambra.
The Commissioner explained that Anambra state government is carrying out projects that impact directly on people at the grass root, recalling that government expended four billion naira in controlling the erosion menace at one hundred foot road Nnewi, an amount which he said can fix all the roads in the capital city.

He explained that the Governor is also spending huge sums of money in carrying out legacy projects like the cargo airport, International Conference Center, Awka Township stadium among others, despite the present financial constraints all over the world.

Engineer Ifejiofor reassured that a lot of roads Will be done this season so as to provide access roads to Ndi Anambra coming home for the Yuletide, just like the state government brought back work on the Enugu-Onitsha expressed road because of the synergy between the Anambra state government and federal government.
