To ensure that aftermath of the recent EndSars Protests across the Country, especially in Anambra State does not have negative effects on the minds and morals of the officers of the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command, members of Rotary Club International district 9142 have paid a courtesy call on the state’s Commissioner of police Mr. John Abang at the command’s headquarters in Awka.
The leader of the team who is the past Assistant Governor of the District, Sir Chika Ekwueme in his opening remarks said that they are not oblivious of the damage done in the Country, especially what Nigeria police suffered during the protests, hence their resolve to visit the command and sympathize with them as well as assure them of continued mutual collaboration in the areas of peace building and conflict resolution.
Sir Chika who said that no society can ever develop without peace, noted that the district is planning to send two officers from Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police to study peace building and conflict resolution in one of the best Universities in the world next year, as part of Rotary’s efforts in entrenching sustainable peace in the society and commended Mr. Abang and his command for their display of professionalism during the ENDSARS protest in Anambra state.
Responding, Mr. Abang who said that he was overwhelmed and elated by the visit lamented that some of his members paid supreme sacrifices during the protests which he described as a nightmare.
He assured that the Command will continue to discharge its duties with a high sense of professionalism and rule of law.
Others present during the visit were a past Assistant Governor of the District, Dr. Dennis Ekemezie, Anambra state Chairperson of Conflict Prevention and Peace Building Lady Stella Epundu among others.
Mr. Abang was later presented with a meritorious award in peace building, conflict resolution and crime fighting in Anambra state by the Rotary Club.
