The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works has advised the Ministry of Works to ensure that the fifty roads captured in 2021 Appropriation bill for construction is spread across the thirty constituencies of the State.
The Chairman of the committee, Dr Timothy Ifedioramma gave the advice during a bilateral interaction of his committee with the Ministry of Works on the 2021 budget estimate of the Ministry held at the Legislative Complex in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Dr. Ifedioramma who noted that quality road construction is the fulcrum of development, mandated the Ministry to construct a road in each constituency within the state so that every constituency will feel the impact of the thirty six billion naira allocated to the Ministry of works in 2021 Appropriation bill.
On his part, the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Culture, Honourable Okechukwu Okoye urged the Ministry to specify the fifty roads captured in their budget estimate and the amount earmarked for them to enable the House oversight them as it will prevent the execution of shoddy jobs.
On his part, a member of the Committee, Honourable Lawrence Ezeudu asked the Commissioner for Works to extend road construction to Nawgu community as it has not benefited from road construction since Nigeria returned to democratic governance.
Responding, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Marcel Ifejiofor revealed that Nawgu/Isuanicha road has been designed for construction, assuring that he will carry out the directives of the Committee.
The Commissioner further stated that the Ministry constructed the one hundred foot at Nnewi and controlled the erosion menace threatening the area.
In Ogbaru, the Commissioner said the Obiano administration is currently constructing the fourteen point three Ogwuaniocha road with twenty two bus culverts and is also working on the Aguleri Otu road among others.
Meanwhile, the Statistician General, Anambra State, Mr. Paul Emeka has appealed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to increase the budgetary allocation of the Agency in 2021 fiscal year to enable it carry out quarterly Gross Domestic Product of Anambra State as well generate data that will be useful to the State government.
Mr. Emeka made the appeal while defending the budget estimate of the agency before the committee at the House of Assembly complex in Awka.
