A national summit on Cassava being organised by the Federal Government is billed for next week.
The national summit is designed to attract Ambassadors of countries that require Cassava for export.
Agric correspondent, Ebele Ezeh reports that the National Programme Coordinator, FG/IFAD VCDP, Mr. Garba Bala disclosed this during a visit to Anambra State.
The National Programme Coordinator, FG/IFAD VCDP, Mr. Bala has successfully concluded his three days working visit to Anambra State with the inauguration of cassava bulky center with Solar powered bore hole at Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area and two other Sola powered bore holes at Ochuche and Ossomala communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Inaugurating the facilities, Mr. Bala mandated the beneficiaries to ensure that women and youths are majorly involved in all the activities at the various centres to drive home the major target of the programme.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Stephanie Keri-Uzor urged the beneficiaries to take absolute ownership of the facilities, protect and maintain same to better their living standards.
The State Programme Coordinator, FG/IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, assured full completion and equipping of all the processing centres noting that their appropriate usage, management and security will pave way for more interventions.
For the Transition Committee chairman, Ihiala Local Government Area, Sir Jude Obi, who who commended the synergy between Anambra State and the Federal Government in improving agriculture, requested for provision of the Sola panels, which according to him, will nip in the bud, issue of fuel and the environmental hazards associated with power generators.
In their separate speeches, Chief Simeon Ohajianya, who represented Igwe Uli-in-Council, Igwe Ochuche community, represented by Ajie Francis Otogbolu and Igwe Victor Awogu of Ossomala community, represented by the President General, Sir John Nwadialor, while expressing joy over the facilities, appealed for more interventions.
For the beneficiaries, including the chairman, Uli cluster, Chief Emma Obilakaba and the Chairperson, Covenant Cassava Processing center Ochuche-Umuodu, Mrs. Janemary Nzelu, they have been yearning for the facilities until the FG/IFAD VCDP came to their rescue even as they appealed for the speedy completion and equipping of the processing centers.
