Anambra state President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene has called on Ndi Igbo to be more united in order to achieve their collective goal which is gaining their rightful position in the Nigeria polity.

Chief Okeke-Ogene made the call when he led the leadership of the Anambra state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo on a courtesy visit to the Transition Committee Chairman for Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr Arinze Awogu in his office at the Local Government Area’s Headquarters in Atani.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo was there and reports that Chief Okeke-Ogene while emphasizing on what the Igbos are known for, reminded them that killing is not part of their culture, and pointed out that freedom of Igbos in Nigeria will not be earned through another war, rather with wisdom and unity of purpose.

Chief Okeke-Ogene commended Mr Awogu on his proactiveness in rendering selfless service to the people of Ogbaru Council Area through his position as the TC Chairman, and described him as a true Igbo man who has remained commited towards the protection and preservation of Igbo culture and tradition, calling on other Transition Committee Chairmen in Anambra to emulate his supportive disposition towards Ohanaeze group in Ogbaru.

Receiving the group, Mr Awogu observed that Anambra state chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo under the leadership of Chief Okeke-Ogene has been a source of confidence and upliftment for Ndi Igbo, and called on the national body of the organization to ensure youths inclusiveness in the association and to return Ohanaeze to the people to make it become apolitical and more viable.

Mr Awogu commended Governor Willie Obiano for maximally supporting the state’s chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo worldwide and allowing it to function independently without government’s interference on the affairs of the organization, pointing out that such has enabled the state chapter of the group to perform creditably.

In a remark, the Traditional Ruler of Ochuche-Umuodu, Igwe Vincent Ijomah who represented Ogbaru traditional rulers at the event, while describing Ohanaeze group as the apex body of the Igbo extraction, asked them to be defenders of Igbo youths and Igbo nation outside the Igbo land and to avoid condemning them before other tribes.

In a vote of thanks, one of the state executive members of the group, Engineer Jimmy Asoegwu, appreciated the Ogbaru TC Chairman Mr Awogu for showing warm reception during the visit and emphasized on the need for traditional rulers in various communities in Igbo land to partner Ohaneze group.
