Anambra State government through the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Industry and Wealth Creation has inaugurated the leadership of Anambra Fruits and Vegetable Market, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The inauguration took place at the conference hall office of the Secretary to the State Government in Awka.
The inauguration was performed by the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Industry and Wealth Creation, Mr Uchenna Okafor.
The inaugurated leadership of the market comprises members of the Board of Trustees and members of the Market executive which captured all the major tribes in Nigeria including the Hausa and Yoruba’s.
During the inaugural ceremony Mr. Okafor assured them of a level playing ground as all the measures that will guarantee their safety and progress of the market has be concluded as the market is expected to expand the production of fruits and vegetable within the region and the entire country at large.
Some members of the Board of Trustee including the Sarkin Hausa Community in Onitsha, Alhaji Iliyasu Yashau and Kabiyesi Oba of Yoruba Community in Onitsha, Alhaji Abdulrahman Zubdiruand who also doubles as the Chairman Anambra State Muslim Council appreciated the state government for being so accommodating and assured of great dedication towards the growth of the Market.
In their separate speeches, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr Arizechukwu Awogu and a Patron of the market, Chief Boniface Egbutu, while commending those that made actualization of the market a reality, expressed optimism that the market will lead to increased economic activities that will bring about improved standard of living for Ndi Anambra.
The National Chairman, Fruits and Vegetable Dealers Association of Anambra State, Mr Charles Egonu who is also a trader in the market assured that their members will ensure that the Market thrives as he extends gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for his approval and support.
The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Agriculture, Mr Paul Nwosu, is also a member of the Board of Trustees.
