Federal College of Education Technical Umunze has held its thirty-first/ninth joint matriculation ceremony for NCE and Degree students.

The over one thousand, five hundred new students took their oath of allegiance and good behavior at the institution ceremonial quadrangle Umunze.


Education correspondent, Theophilus Ukoha reports that the matriculation ceremony, earlier scheduled for March twenty-sixth, was cancelled due to closure of schools as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the event , the Provost, Dr Tessy Okoli, who said the college management has constituted a COVID-19 Committee in every department to ensure total compliance with the safety guidelines, advised all staff and students to take seriously all the safeaty guidelines recommended by health experts.

Dr Okoli while warning the matriculants of the institution’s zero tolerance to cultism, examination malpractice and seventy-five percent attendance to lectures, among others, charged them to be of good behavior and be guided by the institution’s motto, “To Educate for Self Reliance”.


In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Frederick Odibo, reminded them of the affiliation structure between UNIZIK and the College, which gives rare privilege of studying for a degree of UNIZIK in academic programs domiciled in the College whose curricula and other requirements are the same high academic standards of the university.

He charged them to be responsible students and shun absenteeism, examination misconduct, certificate forgery and cultism.


Earlier in a remark, the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education , Professor Aliyu Mohammed, represented by the Director Special Duties, Mr. Lawrence Aremu, informed them of the value of their vocation as future teachers and molders’ of future leaders and hence, should take their studies seriously and abide by the academic standards of the commission.
