It was an atmosphere of eulogies as the remains of late patriarch and renowned educationist, Late Sir Michael Okoye were laid to rest in his country home, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.


Late Sir Michael, who passed on at grand age of ninety was a renowned educationist who thought in many schools, including Africa College, New Bethel College, Metropolitan College, all in Onitsha and Merchants of Light Secondary School, Oba and as well said to be the second Amawbia indigene to acquire a University Degree among other numerous achievements.


Blessing Uchendu reports that the deceased was blessed with six children, thirteen grandchildren and many other relations.

Earlier in a Sermon during the Burial Service held at St Peters’ Anglican Church, Amawbia, the Anglican Bishop, Diocese on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo, called on christians to aim for eternity by leading a godly life, and described the deceased as a man of strong character who had a humble beginning and whose dedicated services to God and humanity are worthy of emulation.
Bishop Nwokolo noted that longevity is a reward for good deeds and that such moments call for reflection and amendments.


Speaking shortly after the interment, some of the deceased’s children, Mr Chinwuba Okoye, Lady Adora Okoye and Mr Ejikeme Okoye, assured to uphold the good legacies of their late father, noting that late Sir Michael would remain their role model.
On her part, one of the daughters-in-law of the deceased, Mrs Stella Okoye of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, portrayed her father in- law as a peace maker, a loving man who lived a good and prayerful life.


Some of his grandchildren, Miss Chinweifenu Okoye and Mr Joel Orji said that they would greatly miss their beloved grandfather.
In their various condolences, the President of Knight of Saint Christopher, Diocese on the Niger, Barrister Chudi Uzuegbu, Chairman of Saint Peters Men’s Fellowship, Mr Chris Ezeaguba, Deacon Charles Osuji and Mr Chike Onuorah-Kwasie among others, urged the children to sustain the legacies their father left behind especially by remaining united.


The Funeral Ceremony attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including a former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, a former Dean of the Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa, staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Uche Nworah among others, while choir rendition, dance by men’s fellowship, condolence by friends and relatives climaxed the ceremony.
