Women have been described as pride of creation and pillars of the society who play fundamental roles in all facets of human life.
This was part of views expressed at the 2020 International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Week Awards and Luncheon held in Awka.
Queen Anigbogu reports that FIDA during the event honoured the wife of the Governor Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano with an award for her humanitarian services to the society.
In her speech, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Obiano represented by Transition Committee Chairman Awka South LGA, Hon. Leo Nwuba, assured that she would continue to identify with issues that concern women.
While thanking them for giving her an award, Mrs. Obiano promised them her continuous support to achieve the set objectives.
Also speaking, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, explained that he was at the event to show solidarity to FIDA and urged the Chairperson to use her position to make a difference in the organization.
The Chairperson, FIDA Anambra state branch, Prof Ogugua Ikpeze, in her opening remarks, said their objective is to promote, protect and enhance the welfare of women, children, youth and indigent persons, as their well-being depends on the happiness of the home and strength of the society.
Prof Ikpeze made an appeal to all to donate generously to FIDA Anambra to enable them complete their center from where they give succour to the less privileged persons in the state.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Umunya, who is also one of the awardees, Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje, asked FIDA to include the men in their fight for justice for women and children.
In his contribution the chairman of the occasion, Chief Damian Okolo, commended the roles women are playing in families to promote peace and stability, urging them not to relent.
In their separate reaction, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government Matters Honourable Ike Mmuoedu and Professor Carol Umobi, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka stressed the importance of women and called on them to rise up and stand for their God-given rights.
Also speaking, Justice Nkemdilim Izuakor, went down memory lane of how FIDA started in Anambra state and expressed satisfaction that the FIDA Week is taking place within the sixteen day Activism on violence against women all over the world, adding that FIDA is her stepping stone to greater heights.
