The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Dr Victor Oye has commended the efforts of the Rotary International in leading a global initiative that led to the eradication of polio in Nigeria and Africa.
Dr. Oye gave the commendation in his residence at Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area when members of the Rotary Club conferred on him the latest Paul Harris Fellow PHF.
Dr Oye, already a multiple Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International, advised the club to increase efforts in addressing other human concerns, such as peace, maternal and child health, water and sanitation with resources that would be saved when poliomyelitis is eradicated in the world.
The APGA National Chairman also commended Rotary leadership transition which is devoid of rancor and acrimony.
Speaking before the decoration of Dr. Oye as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow the Rotary District Chairman, Peace Building, Conflict Prevention and Resolution Committee, Rotarian Chika Ekwueme said that Dr. Oye has made significant contributions that have helped to immunize two point five billion children from polio and other communicable diseases, and saved over three hundred and fifty thousand children who would have been paralyzed every year as a result of poliomyelitis.
Rotarian Ekwueme said that with support from Dr. Oye and his friends, Rotary has been able to award one hundred scholarships every year for candidates to study Peace Development of Rotary Foundation.
