Anambra state government has been commended for being responsive to the plights of students in the state.

The commendation came from National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS zone B, when they presented Excellent Service Award to the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, at his office at the Ministry of Works, Awka.

While presenting the award to Engineer Ifejiofor, the Public Relations Officer of the Association Comrade Emeka Nwabunwanne on behalf of the group said it was in recognition of his prompt response to curb accident situations in schools across the state.

Comrade Nwabunwanne explained that the association is happy with the response from the Commissioner when an accident claimed the life of a student at Oba, and that of nine students at Igbariam road crashes, as he responded almost immediately by mounting speed breakers on the roads to avoid a repeat of the ugly incidents.

He said that he was there on behalf of the President of the Association because members of the association were led to Abuja to stand with one of their own, an Anambra indigene who emerged the National Speaker of NANS Parliament after a keenly contested battle, thanking God for the victory.

Responding, Engineer Ifejiofor appreciated the group for the honour and said that the present administration is a youth friendly one, giving the fact that youths occupy sensitive positions in the Obiano’s cabinet including the legislative arm where a youth is the one at the helm of affairs.

Engineer Ifejiofor added that Governor Obiano is not the type that turns deaf ears when any part or member of the state is in pain, pointing out that it was the Governor that gave approval for mounting of the speed breakers to forestall such occurrences.

He promised to always protect the students from any mishap especially life threatening situations, urging them to continue to study hard so as to become better individuals in the society.

The event climaxed with presentation of Excellent Service Award to Engineer Ifejiofor.
