Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged seven inmates and granted bail to four others at the Amawbia Correctional Centre to mark the end of this year’s jail delivery exercise.

The inmates were charged for various degrees of crime ranging from rape, murder, armed robbery, to kidnapping.

During the jail delivery, it was observed that some of the inmates have been in the Correctional centre for four years and above without appearing to any court of law.
Justice Anyachebelu said the annual jail delivery exercise is necessary as it goes a long way in decongesting Correctional centres in the state, and as well gives justice to inmates who have been unlawfully remanded in the centres.

He asked management of all Correctional centres in the state to do the needful to ensure that all that were granted bail during the exercise are released. On his part, the Deputy Controller of the Amawbia Correctional Centre, Mr David Akabueze promised to ensure that all the inmates that are released during the exercise are discharged without any delay. K Cases handled by the Chief Judge during the jail delivery exercise were serious health challenges, juvenile, among others.

The state Controller of Prisons, Mr Emmanuel Nwabueze was present during the jail delivery exercise.
