Free Prosthetics: Mrs Obiano Comes to the Rescue of an Accident Victim

The wife of Governor of Anambra State, and founder of the charity organization, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE) Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has come to the rescue of Mr Shadrack Chukwuma Odo who lost his right hand and leg limbs as a result of a ghastly accident in October 2020.

Mrs Obiano discovered Shedrack following his spirited appeal in a video message, soliciting help to enable him procure prosthetics after the misfortune.

Twenty-three-year-old Shedrack Odo, a newly graduate apprentice had lost hope of being able to fend for himself when Mrs Obiano made contact on the phone and after inquiries, deployed the modest resources and expertise available to her NGO and ferried the young man in an ambulance to Awka, Anambra State on 9th December 2020 where he was counselled and measured to ensure that prosthetics arm and leg made to his size and specification will be produced. It is expected that the prosthetics will be ready for fitting before end of February 2020.

Expressing surprise at the sudden turnaround and hope for better future, Shedrack described Mrs Obiano as “God- sent.” In his words:

” I had lost all hope that I can get prosthetics that would enable me to at least do something for myself, because I was told it is very costly. But after the video my cousin made the Governor’s wife saw it. Her Excellency, Osodieme of Anambra, contacted me and told me that she offers prosthetics free of charge. I was so glad to hear that. I thank God for her. She is really doing great. “From what I see, I can say that she is God-sent. This help she is rendering to me now is so amazing. I didn’t know something of this nature could come up. I thank God that I will be able to use my leg and my hand to do something because this is not the end of life”

Earlier in a brief chat with the beneficiary, Mrs Obiano counselled him not to lose hope that CAFE will assist him get the much-needed prosthetics. She also assured him that God loves him and that he can still achieve his dreams in life.

The Measurement for free prosthetics limb and legs for physically challenged persons organized by CAFE, is currently ongoing in Awka Anambra State and will cover over 300 persons. Those measured will subsequently get theirs fitted in three months after production according to specification.

The CAFE Free Prosthetics programme has since the first phase in 2015, recorded over two thousand beneficiaries.
