Petty Hawkers Welfare and Empowerment Initiative Of Nigeria (PHEN) in collaboration with ministry of Women and Children Affairs, has inaugurated State Committee Members to support State government efforts in checkmating and addressing street hawking and all forms of exploitative child labour in the society.

The inauguration of child ambassadors was in keeping with building a sustainable solid foundation and brighter prospects for the Nigerian Child.


Staff reporter,Odinaka Nwolisa reports that Child Labour and abuse according to the President of the Committee, Comrade Emeka Ojukwu exposes children to all forms of risks that endanger their lives.

He said that initiative is a non-governmental Organization,established with the mandate of fighting against child abuse and forced Labour and maintained that innovative approaches and strategies will be deployed to complement government commitment in eliminating and improving Child welfare as well as empowering youths and disclosed their intention to build rehabilitation centres for children and aged people’s home.

The State Co-ordinator, Mrs.Stella Ofozie in her acceptance speech,said the committee will tackle the decay that has taken drastic exposure on the Society and called for collective action against the plight of vulnerable persons Earlier in a speech, the chairman on the occasion,Chief Hyginus Igwe,suggested sustainable collaboration and increased advocacy as intervention measures.
He explained that many hawkers are often victims of social vices and pledged readiness to support and synergize with the initiative in eradicating the challenges in the state.


In a paper presentation, a Human Right Activist Comrade Chris Chidiadi highlighted on consequences of child abuse and child Right acts and called for government support.

Speaking to ABS,the State Deputy Director Comrade. Obiegbu Ikeobi and Secretary,Mrs.Obiamaka Onwualu affirmed to take drastic measures towards creating employment opportunities for youths in line with fighting criminal activities in the State.
