Governor Willie Obiano says his administration’s partnership with the Church is yielding positive results.
Governor Obiano made this known at the eightieth birthday thanksgiving service of the Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa and fund raising for the renovation of Saint Peter’s Church Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area.
Governor Willie Obiano represented by the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amechi Okwuosa eulogized the celebrant as one of the shining lights of the Anambra State who has diligently made his mark in service to God.
Governor Obiano who said that eighty years with sound health is a blessing noted that the State has witnessed tremendous infrastructural, moral and socioeconomic development because of his administration’s mutual relationship with the church, and assured that he will sustain the tempo for a better Anambra state and wished Most Reverend Anikwenwa more fruitful years ahead.
In a sermon during the service, the Anglican Bishop of Ihiala Diocese, Right Reverend Israel Okoye described Most Reverend Anikwenwa as a dedicated man of God whose positive impact repositioned church of Nigeria during his time of active service, adding that he learnt a lot from him.
Responding, the celebrant who was highly elated thanked God for his grace in his life and appealed to both religious and political leaders to ensure that humanity is not led astray even as he urged them to help him renovate Saint Peter’s Church for the building to reflect house of God.
Some of the dignitaries at the event were, the Archbishop province on the Niger and Bishop of Awka diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emekathe Anambra State Commissioner for housing and urban renewal Mr. Mike Okonkwo, a former Commissioner for Economic Planning in Anambra State, Professor Chinyere Okunna, Anambra State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sir Ndubuisi Nwobu, among others, while cutting of the birthday cake among others climaxed the event.
Most Reverend Anikwenwa who hails for Awkuzu, in Oyi Local Government Area was a pioneer Bishop of Awka Diocese first Archbishop of Niger Province and later rose to the position of Dean, Church of Nigeria Anglican communion serving ten years before his retirement at the age of seventy on November twenty-second 2010.
