Governor Willie Obiano has called for collaborative efforts towards accelerating the pace of development in Anambra State, through prompt payment of Tax and levies.
The Governor made the call during the unveiling of the Anambra Revenue Journal 2020, awards and end of the year party at the Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area.
The journal is a compilation of all achievements made by the Obiano administration with the taxes and levies of the Anambra state residents, and was meant to reveal to the people of the state where their taxes and levies are being channeled to in order to revitalize their consciousness towards tax payment.
Governor Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke while describing prompt payment of tax and levies as very crucial for rapid development of the state said the state will become better if all the state’s residents will be more committed to task payment.
The Governor commended the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service Dr David Nzekwu for his commitment to duty which he observed has redoubled the state’s internally Generated Revenue.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Dr Nzekwu commended Ndi Anambra that have remained consistent in tax payment, disclosing that initially when Governor Obiano took over the mantle of leadership of the state that the IGR of the state was eight point seven billion naira and in 2019 moved to twenty-six point four billion, expressing the hope that this year’s figure will be higher despite challenges the office faced this year.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr Uche Nworah represented by Mr Chido Obidiegwu and others were honoured during the event for their efforts in promoting tax payment in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba and other dignitaries were present at the event.
