The Chairman Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Procurement, Honourable Chuka Ezenwune says the introduction of Procurement Act has entrenched accountability in governance.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim, reports that the lawmaker disclosed this when the Idemmili South Local Government Council appeared before the committee to defend their procurements in 2019.
Honourable Ezenwune explained that the essence of the Procurement Act is to entrench due process in doing government business, which is now being universally acknowledged as helping to reduce waste.
He stated that the essence of their meeting with the twenty one local government areas in the state is to see whether the due process as enshrined in the Anambra State Procurement Law 2011 as amended is being followed.
The committee however commended Idemmili, Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia Local Government Areas that appeared before it for sticking to due process in their procurements.
In a remark, the Transition Committee Chairman, Njikoka Local Government Area, Mr. George Ozor, commended the committee for being alive to their responsibilities as he said that it has helped to strengthen the local government system in the state.
On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili South Local Government Area, Mr. Dom Unachukwu noted that the overnight responsibility of the Anambra State House of Assembly encourages rapid development of the state, assuring that his local government will always work in accordance with the Procurement Act.
