The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, says government alone cannot develop sports.
Mr. Dare, stressed that in an Egalitarian society, sports is developed alongside private investors citing countries like United kingdom, Jamaica, United States, South Africa and a host of others that have successfully engaged in such initiative.
The Minister disclosed that he is also looking at the possibility of building a mini stadium or township stadium in each geo-political zone once and as well ‘Adopt-A-Team’ since they have seen the efficacy of such project.
Meanwhile, the World football governing body FIFA has cancelled the 2021 editions of the under twenty and under seventeen World Cups in Indonesia and Peru respectively due to COVID-19 pandemic.
FIFA stated that Indonesia and Peru will now host the tournaments in 2023.
COVID-19 pandemic has continued to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events thus having a restrictive effect on International travels.
