Umuona Community in Aguata Local Government Area has under strict observation of all COVID-19 protocols, elected a new town union executive, which will pilot the affairs of the community for the next three years.
This came after a prolonged meeting aimed at achieving the overall progress and development of the community as well as the modalities for the election.
The election, which took place at Umuona Civic Center, was supervised by the officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Local Governments, Town Unions and Chieftaincy Matters, and representatives from Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, to ensure, free, fair and credible election.
For peace, transparency and credibility, secret ballot system was adopted, which saw Chief Kenneth Okoli as the new President-General, Mr. Gilbert Obiakonwa, Vice President General, Engineer Anthony Muobuike, Secretary General, and Obioha Okechi Assistant Secretary.
Others are the Financial Secretary, Mr. Kenneth Okafor, Treasurer, Chief Sunday Ezeofor, Public Relations Officer, Chukwudi Obiorah, Welfare, Uche Okolo, Provost, Izuchukwu Nduka and Provost 2, Chukwujekwu Anyajesi.
In their separate speeches, the President General of Igboukwu Community and ASATU representative, Sir Chris Ike, the leader of delegates from Aguata Local Government Area and President General of Aguluezechukwu Community, Sir Ikechukwu Okeke charged the new executive to seek for peace and ensure that the developmental purposes of the community are carried out efficiently throughout their regime.
Earlier while handing over the mantle of leadership to his successor, the immediate past President General, Dr. Silas Akaneme thanked God for His grace throughout their tenure.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Okoli, who was visibly excited, assured of his commitment to fast track development in the community and thanked the community members for choosing him.
The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Humphrey Ejesieme, when contacted, promised to support the outcome of the election if due processes were followed.
The event climaxed with the swearing-in of the new executive members.
