Ojoto Community has honoured some women in the community and elevated some members of Igwe Mbamalu’s cabinet, for their outstanding record, humanitarian services and contributions to the development of the community.

The ceremony known as Igba Odu was held at the palace of the traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu.

The  ceremony was a funfair which attracted illustrious sons and daughters of Ojoto, neighboring communities and masquerade group.

 

The Igba Odu coronation is a ceremony that honours selected women in the community who have attained a certain age and live exemplary life both in their families, community and society at large.

The Igba Odu began with decoration of the wife of the traditional ruler of Ojoto, Lolo Amaka Mbamalu and elevation of some cabinet members of Igwe Mbamalu.

 

Speaking to the ABS, Igwe Mbamalu said anyone honoured with Igba Odu is expected to be a symbol of authority and tradition of Ojoto.

According to him, the women were critically observed and picked by the community for their outstanding contributions.

 

Also speaking, wife of Igwe Mbamalu, Lolo Amaka Mbamalu who was among the women honoured thanked them for the prestigious honour and charged other awardees to keep up to the honour bestowed on them.

 

In their separate speeches, some of the men and women honoured, including Chief Dozie Obiaku, Lolo Ifeoma Okonkwo, Lady Ebere Nwabunike and Prince Amobi Agiriga appreciated the community for recorgnising and honouring their services and promise to continue working for the growth and progress of the community.

 

In his reaction, Chief Emma Nwabunike commended Igwe Mbamalu for putting up Igba Odu in such a colorful and prestigious way, commending all who were honoured for living a life worthy of emulation and prayed God to continue to bless the community.
