Governor Willie Obiano has called on affluent individuals in the society to join hands with government in developing communities of the state.
Governor Obiano made the call while commissioning the one kilometer Igwe GNC Ezeudo Road Uke, Idemili North Local Government, built by a philanthropist in the community, Chief Tochukwu Kpajie.
Works correspondent, Ngozi Obileri Reports that the one kilometer road has solar powered street lights, drainages and catchment pit that will ensure durability of the road.
Commissioning the road, Governor Obiano represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Barrister Emeka Ohuoha commended the benefactor Chief Kpajie for having the interest of his community at heart.
While calling on wealthy individuals to assist government in developing their communities, Governor Obiano emphasized that developing the state should be a collective responsibility especially now that the country has plunged back into recession necessitated by coronavirus that reduced government revenue.
He reminded the people of the importance of wearing their face masks and observing other COVID-19 protocols so as to reduce the spread of the second wave of the epidemic.
The traditional ruler of Uke, Igwe Charles Agbala prayed God to bless Chief Kpajie for giving back to the society and appealed to others to join hands in developing the community even as he commended Governor Obiano for doing so much with less.
In his speech, Chief Kpajie, said that he decided to construct the road to alleviate the plight of his people whenever it rains and disclosed that his late father, Chief Linus Kpajie longed for the road to be tarred while alive.
Earlier in an address, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Uke Development Union, Chief Chuks Ezeoba, who extolled Governor Obiano for doing a great job especially the on-going International Cargo Airport at Umueri, appealed to state government to complete the remaining portion of the road.
