Anambra Health Commissioner, Dr Vincent Okpala has commended the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 pandemic for active response in handling the disease through surveillance of state response in COVID-19 testing.
Dr Okpala made the commendation during a courtesy visit by the team from the PTF on COVID-19 in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
The Commissioner, while welcoming the visitors noted that the visit would help the country to know areas that call for attention.
He said that a total of sixteen thousand four hundred persons had so far been tested for the virus, adding that the state had mapped out policies to tackle the virus including Tracing, Testing and Treatment.
Dr Okpala informed them that the state government created a decentralized structure that allowed easy sample collection from the twenty one Local Government Areas.
Dr Okpala, while enumerating the challenges faced in the fight against COVID -19 including logistics and acquisition of cartridges, appealed for Federal Government’s support in providing prompt solutions to the problems.
Leader of the team, Mr Austen Anyakorah said that the purpose of their visit was to carry out surveillance and situation report on COVID-19 testing rate in the state.
Mr Anyakorah said, they would go to the field to make observations and report to the PTF and assured the Commissioner that he would be briefed at the conclusion of their tour of the state.
In attendance during the visit include Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Linus Nwankwo and State Epidemiologist, Dr Chukwuma Emembolu.
Also present was the State Logistic Management Coordinating Unit Pharmacist Anthony Ojukwu.
