The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi says the agency has registered about six thousand Ndi Anambra into the National Basic Health Care Provision fund Scheme.
Dr. Onyemaechi disclosed this at the launch of the programme at Primary Heath Care Centre, Umudioka Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.
Addressing the enrollees, Dr. Onyemaechi explained that the Basic Health Care Provision Fund is aimed at giving indigent and less privileged people in the society access to basic health care at no cost revealing that the agency will register eighty- five persons in every political ward in the state, which he noted was anchored on equity and fairness.
Dr. Onyemaechi who doubles as the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on health, revealed that Anambra State is one of the seven states in Nigeria that met the requirements set by the federal government to access the fund and encourage Ndi Anambra, especially the downtrodden to embrace it as it will in turn boost the health indices of the state.
Also speaking, the Executive Assistant to Governor Obiano on Community Liaison, Mr. Obinna Okoli described the National Basic Health Care Provision fund Scheme as a step in the right direction and lauded Governor Obiano for attracting the fund to the state.
In their various remarks, the All Progressives Grand Alliance chairman, Awka Ward Three, Mr. Patrick Anikpeh and the midwife at the Primary Heath Care Centre, Mrs. Phoebe Iwobi described the turn out as massive and urged the beneficiaries not to toil with the good gesture.
Over twenty-eight thousand indigent Ndi Anambra will benefit from the scheme.
