Eleven People from Ichida, Anaocha council Area have received skill acquisition training and empowerment in their different fields of learning.
The training which was the brainchild of the Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Council Area, Mr Patrick Onyedum aimed at alleviating poverty and hardships in the council area.
Amaka Chibuzor Okoye was there and reports that the beneficiaries were trained in different fields including tailoring, bakery and decorations, information communication technology and electrical skills among others and were given huge amounts of money to start their own businesses to make a living and become employers of labour.
Addressing the beneficiaries and others who gathered to witness the handover of equipment at the council headquarters, Neni, the Transition Chairman, Mr Onyedum said that since he assumed office, he initiated the scheme to engage men and women of the council who are unemployed to acquire skills to become self reliant, noting that selecting candidates from all the communities that make up the council area, trained and equipped them was the result.
Mr Onyedum explained that he received support from stakeholders who sponsored candidates from other communities , calling on other affluent members to see the need to help the poor among them so as to earn a living even as he extolled the support of Chief Ken Okafor who donated the items for the candidates.
Also speaking , a community leader in Ichida, Chief Ken Okafor applauded the transition chairman, Mr Onyedum for the inspiration of building lives through the training and empowerment, saying he was motivated to help in donating to the candidates so as to wipe out hunger and poverty as government cannot do it alone.
In their separate speeches, the President General of Ichida, Town Union, Chief Coleman Ubah and his Woman President General counterpart, Mrs Appolonia Osigwe, asked the beneficiaries to make Judicious use of the equipment and also be employers of labour until no one is left behind.
While thanking their benefactor and donor, two of the beneficiaries, Mr Nwalie Chukwuma and Mrs Ebele Ezeokonkwo said that the programm came as a dream but have turned to reality, nothing that Mr Onyedum and Chief Okafor have added value to their lives praying God to replenish their pockets.
Presentation of cash and equipment formed highlight of the programm.
