Residents of Awka have blamed ninety percent of the gridlocks experienced by road users on tricycle operators.

They also called for their training and retraining on road usage when the ABS monitored their activities within Awka and environs.

During the monitoring, ABS observed that some of the Tricycle operators popularly known as Keke riders do not observe traffic rules, as some of them pack with impunity at the middle of the road, while some overtake wrongly, buttressing the urgent need for their training and enlightenment on road safety rules and regulations.

Speaking on the development , a resident, Mr. John Agha while frowning on the rate of their recklessness recommended training and enlightenment programms for them.

For Chief Uchebuisi Nnatu government and wealthy citizens should create more employment opportunity for the teaming youths to take some people out of the keke business, which he alleged that some opted for as a result of lack of employment.

Contributing, a native of Nibo in Awka South Council Area, Mr. Anthony Nwobu identified impatient and lack of driving experience as major problems of the operators, advising them to imbibe the spirit of patience, avoid recklessness, and obey traffic rules while on the road for their lives and that of other road users.

Reacting, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Andrew Kumapai explained that the state government in conjunction with the command has commenced training for Keke riders and emphasized the need for them to obtain grade A driving license, which he said is mandatory for drivers.
