Anambra State Government has announced its readiness to commence the issuance and renewing of licenses to operators of hospitality industry within the state.
The Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Kenneth Anierobi announced this during a meeting with the executive of Anambra State Hotels Association, at the Ministry’s conference hall, Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Dr. Anierobi emphasized that the licensing would be obligatory for government to regulate activities in the industry.
While urging them to ensure that their guests and workers adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines, Dr. Anierobi enjoined them to have copies of Anambra Compendium in their hotels for their guests to access and know more about the state.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala enjoined everyone to go for COVID-19 testing to ascertain their health status and charged hotel owners to ensure that they fumigate their facilities to reduce the spread of the disease and disclosed that the present fumigation chemicals the state uses last for ninety days without any harmful effect to life.
He asked them to report any of their staff members or guests with fever to the ministry for free testing and treatment noting that the best time to treat COVID-19 is between two to three days of infection, adding that the ministry would monitor their facilities to ensure strict compliance.
Responding, the chairman, Anambra State Hotel Association, Dr. Godwin Okonkwo lauded the initiative describing it as a step in the right direction.
