Anambra state government has commenced development of some waterways in the state to make it more convenient for millions of Ndi Anambra who travel to their homes through the water ways.
The development started with two waterways which are Anambra River Otuocha water and River Niger-Bridge headwater way for the Ogbaru riverine communities.
The commissioner for Transport, Mr Afam Mbanefo who is championing the development said it was a directive from Governor Willie Obiano.
According to the commissioner, the move became necessary, considering the huge economic activities taking place in these waterways.
He said that eighty percent of local rice, fish, yam, okro and other farm produce consumed by Ndi Anambra are produced and transported through the water ways and those riverine areas.
