Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to urgently direct all relevant security agencies to intervene in the happenings at Ogwuikpele, Ogbaru Local Government Area and Azia in Ihiala Local Government Area to restore peace.
The House also urged Governor Willie Obiano to set-up committee of inquiry on the said matter for sustainable peace in the state.
The resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Ogbaru Two Constituency, Sir Somchukwu Udeze during yesterday’s plenary.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that while explaining the motion, Sir Somtochukwu informed the House that six persons from Ogwuikpele Community were recently murdered and their houses set ablaze by unknown persons.
A situation he regretted had compelled residents of the community to desert the area.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Dr. Paschal Agbodike also informed the House that three persons were recently murdered in Azia by faceless men, even as he applauded security agencies for their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of the inhuman act.
On his part, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida, who described the incidents as very pathetic, urged the Executive Arm of Government to declare a state of emergency at Ogwuikpele to salvage the situation.
In his contribution, the member representing Oyi Constituency, Honorable Charles Obimma and his Anambra West Constituency counterpart, Honorable Patrick Udeoba condemned the acts and called for total overhauling of the state security agencies.
The Speaker of the House, Right Honorable Uche Okafor, who sympathized with the family of those that lost their beloved ones in the incidents, read out the resolution to the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
