A one-time Governor of the Central Bank, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has declared his intention to contest the forthcoming Governorship election in Anambra State under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA.
He made the declaration at the APGA Secretariat in Awka in the presence of the party leadership in Anambra State, led by the Chairman, Sir. Norbert Obi.
Welcoming him on behalf of the party members, the State Chairman of APGA Sir Norbert Obi who restated that APGA is the third largest political party in Nigeria said that some people have expressed interest to contest the election under APGA.
He reiterated that the party is supreme, and not an individual engagement, assuring that the entire process will be credible.
Presenting his resume, and reasons for his intention Professor Soludo, revealed that he commenced the process by visiting Isuofia ward, and Aguata Local Government Area where he was adopted as the sole candidate in the area.
While thanking everyone, especially the Chairman and his executive, for receiving them as well as all the sacrifices made since the project of his emergence began, Professor Soludo said he was overwhelmed by the consensus and support of people from different quarters asking him to contest, on the basis of which he made himself available.
Earlier, the Isuofia Ward Chairman of APGA Chief Anthony Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of APGA in Aguata local government area, Chief Ezechukwu represented by his Deputy, as well as the Vice Chairman of the South Senatorial District of the party, Chief Ifeanyi Ibekwe, described Professor Soludo as a party loyalist who has been supporting the party.
The member representing Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Chief Dozie Nwankwo, Speaker of the State house of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, and the member representing Anambra East and West federal Constituency at the National Assembly Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, among others said that the future of Anambra State is paramount and bright.
Others who accompanied Professor Soludo to the party Secretariat include former member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Chief Ifeanyi Ibezi, Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Paschal Agbodike and other Assembly members, former Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Emeka Sibudu, some members of the State Executive Council, the Director General of Inter-Party Office, Anambra State Chief Ben Obi, wife of the late former Vice President Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Mrs Ifeoma Ekwueme, Transition Committee Chairmen, among others.
One minute silence was observed in honour of the late Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mr. Chinedu Nkwonta.
