Ndi Anambra have been called upon to take ownership of all the government projects in their community for sustainability.
The call was made during the sensitisation workshop on Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, NIGERIA CARES, Programme Result Area One to all the Traditional Rulers and Presidents General of Anambra Central Senatorial District.
The sensitization workshop which aimed at cushioning the effects of COVID-19 to the poorest of the poor in the state is championed by the Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, CSDA in collaboration with the World Bank.
Addressing the gathering, the Board Chairman, Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, Awka, Igwe Roland Odegbo said the value of the projects executed under CSDP programm is enermous and N-CARES was initiated to eliminate hunger and poverty in the lives of vulnerable and poor people which will be distributed according to poverty level in the state.
Igwe Odegbo who is the traditional ruler of Nteje explained that the programme has been ongoing but Anambra State was not part of it until Governor Willie Obiano came into it in 2018 with the payment of counterpart fund which led to disbursement of ten million naira community choose your project to all the communities in the state.
He noted that the traditional rulers are the focal point of the programme as they will be at the fore front working in unison to achieve the aim and succeed without hiccups.
The General Manager of Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, Mr Chudi Mojekwu noted that N-CARES touches life and adds value to living conditions of the poor in hinterlands, stating that they will deal on issues of health, basic amenities and street lights among others.
In his speech, the State Coordinator of State Operating Coordinating Unit, SOCU, Engineer Bede Okoli noted that they gathered their data through community based targeting mechanism of the World Bank and have one hundred and eighty thousand poor and vulnerable people in their register which will be used for the N-CARES programm, noting that it will also be upgraded.
In their remarks, the traditional ruler of Nibo, Eze Michael Ngene and his Uke counterpart, Igwe Charles Agbala, commended the governor for the program stating that they are at home with it as the intervention will help to reduce the plight of the poor in their communities.
