The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner of Police and other relevant agencies to beef up security and ensure adequate protection along Onitsha-Owerri road.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Ogbaru One Constituency, Honorable Noble Igwe during yesterday’s plenary.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that throwing more light on the motion, Honorable Igwe informed the House that there is virtually no presence of security personnel along Onisha-Owerri road leading to increasing number of crimes within the areas and other social vices.
He stressed the need for the Commissioner of Police to put adequate measures in place to salvage the situation.
On his part, the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Honorable Obinna Emeneka who noted that one of the greatest achievements of the present administration is security, lamented that the security situation in Onitsha-Owerri road and other parts of the state is a threat to the success of the present administration in security and called on the Commissioner of Police to do the needful.
In their contributions, the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Honorable Douglas Egbuna, his Ihiala One Constituency counterpart, Honorable Chidi Udemmadu and others, also called on security agencies to beaf up security in Onitsha and other parts of the state.
The Speaker of the House, Right Honorable Uche Okafor read out the resolution to the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
Also at plenary, the House passed a resolution calling on the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Greg Obi to suspend action on Ifitedunu Town Union matters until the petition wrote to the House by the President General of Ifitedunu Town Union, Chief Uche Nwoye, concerning Ifitedunu Town Union is concluded by the House.
The House passed the resolution after the member representing Dunukofia Constituency, Honorable Lawrence Ezeudu, presented the petition to the House which was supported with a motion of urgent public importance by the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Honorable Chuka Ezenwune.
