Anambra State COVID-19 Protocols Taskforce Team has sustained its enforcement, as more defaulters have been charged to court.
Ruling on the charges brought against the violators at the Magistrate Court, Awka, the presiding Magistrate, Mike Anyadiegwu, said they were guilty as charged, for refusing to wear facemasks, contrary to section 9(h) and punishable under section 12(3) of the COVID-19 and Dangerous Infectious Diseases Prevention and Eradication Law of Anambra State, 2020.
He imposed fines ranging from one to three thousand naira on some of the suspects, who cut across different age brackets, with options of doing community services for two days at the Court premises or any other government establishment.
In an interview the Head of Anambra State COVID-19 Protocols Taskforce Team, Mr. Chika Ekwenugo, said enforcement of COVID-19 protocols will be sustained in the State until people realize the need to assist government in maintaining public health.
He maintained that government is not interested in the fines imposed on COVID-19 violators, and advised people to always wear their facemasks properly to avoid the long hands of the law.
Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that one Miss Adaobi Eze, brought to the court over alleged COVID-19 violation, was however discharged and acquitted, and advised on proper wearing of the facemask.
