The four-day training of Extension Agents on extension tools, methodologies and selected Agric value chain, organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development at the headquarters of the states’ Agricultural Development Programme offices across the country has ended in Awka.

The training, which simultaneously took place across the country including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja,  called  on participants to ensure that the nation’s agricultural extension delivery system meets global competitiveness to ensure food, for the population and some to augment foreign earnings.

Earlier while addressing the participants, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba listed one of the key recommendations of the training to include building the capacity of youths and existing practitioners in agricultural extension delivery system, exposing and equipping them with best global practices and tools to enable them deliver with efficiency.

Mr. Onukwuna, who urged them to put into practice the knowledge garnered, said the training was designed to empower them with skills in the use of extension delivery methodologies and tools as well as best global practices in agricultural value chains as chosen by Anambra State.

Also speaking, the Programme Manager, Anambra State Agricultural Development Programme, ADP, Mr. Jude Nwankwor, described the training as a key activity in the implementation of the federal government’s policy on revitalization of agricultural extension delivery in Nigeria.

Mr. Nwankwor implored them to take advantage of their presence and interactions to build their capacity and knowledge base, which according to him will prepare them to face the challenges of the emerging world of agriculture and technology.

While expressing  gratitude to the federal government over the initiative, Mr. Nwankwor disclosed that the only way the aims and objectives of the training could be achieved is to re-position the ADP system through training like this, provision of equipment and tools as well as funding to carry out their primary mandate and responsibilities to farmers.

The participants unanimously called for such training to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
