The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Anambra State Chapter has applauded the state government, for putting to an end, extortion of residents by petroleum dealers, in a recent arbitrary fuel price hike.

 

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its maiden congress, held at the ABS corporate headquarters, Awka.

 

The Congress, while congratulating Governor Willie Obiano on his seventh year anniversary, commended him for his numerous achievements in all sectors of the state’s economy, and nipping in the bud, the excesses of the Independent Petroleum Marketers by forcing them to revert to normal fuel pump price.

 

The communiqué, signed by the state chairperson, Comrade Franklin Onyekachi and the Secretary, Comrade Uche Nworah, also appreciated government and the state security outfits for working tirelessly to ensure that life and properties of the citizens are protected, even as it called on the police and other security agencies to step up action to arrest some security challenges at Onitsha its environs.

 

On the state of the nation, the Congress, which called for a water tight security network across the country, especially in terms of kidnapping of innocent school children, commended President Mohammadu Buhari for the ongoing construction of Enugu-Onitsha Express Road, calling for its speedy completion.

 

It advised members of the union to remain professional in their reportage at all times.
