The Anambra State Government, on March 17, 2021, renamed the road from Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia to Eke Nibo after Chief Sir Ndu Ughammadu MFR, the immediate past Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The Road, which should henceforth be known as Sir Ndu Ughammadu Boulevard, was due to the contributions of Chief Ughammadu to the development of Nibo, his home town, and the State in general.
Thus, the traditional Ruler of Nibo, Eze Michael Ngene, conferred the chieftaincy title of Ogene Nibo on him, while the people of Nri also conferred on him the chieftaincy title of Omeligbo. He singlehandedly fenced and mounted a gigantic Iron Gate at Nibo Community Hospital as well as renovated Umube and Uruana halls, Nibo.
At the Federal Level, Chief Ndu Ughammadu bagged a national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, MFR. A gallant Knight of Saint Paul of the Anglican Church, Chief Ughamadu was born at Maiduguri, Borno State.
He attended University of Lagos and University of Ibadan, as well as the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He bagged Bachelor of Science and MSC Degree in Economics, BL and LLB as well as Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication. He also has an MBA in Public Relations and Advertising, as well as certificates in Petroleum Studies and Capital Marketing Reporting.
Chief Ndu Ughammadu joined the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as an Economic News Reporter and later joined the Daily Times of Nigeria as Energy Correspondent; Group Energy Editor, Business Times; Daily Times Chief Economist; Chairman, Editorial Board and Editor, Daily Times.
Chief Ndu Ughamadu was appointed by the federal government as a member of Nigeria’s delegation to many international petroleum events, including the World Petroleum Congress. He has also received several letters of commendation for his primed commentaries on the oil and Gas Sector from many past Petroleum ministers, including Professor Tam David West and Dr. Rilwanu Lukman.
Chief Ughammadu worked as Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, under a former Group Managing Director of the Corporation, the late Dr Maikanti Baru. He served as a Spokesman of NNPC under Chief Gaius-Obaseki.
Chief Ughammadu was part of the success story of the NNPC during its cycles of boom and burst. He was fully involved in the monitoring of the daily stock of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), called petrol, to achieve smooth distribution of petroleum products and zero fuel queues across the nation.
Chief Ughamadu is a member of several national and international organizations, including OPEC Ministerial Monitoring Committee Meeting, Oil Producers and Consumers Meeting, Paris, France. He has attended various meetings in the United Kingdom and the United States, Geneva, Germany, Oman, Ghana, Morocco and Malaysia. He is the Media Consultant to the Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Chief Ndu Ughamadu, a devout Christian, was equally a member of the Nigerian Delegation to the World Petroleum Congress in Argentina in 1991 as well as member of the Oil Producers Conference (OPEC and non-OPEC countries) OMAN in 1993.
Chief Ughamadu is a Founding and Executive Council Member, National Association of Energy Correspondents; Member, Nigeria Union of Journalists; National Publicity Secretary, Nigerian Economic Society; and a one-time Deputy National President, Nigerian Guild of Editors; member, Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria, among others. He is also member, Advisory Board of NDLEA.
