Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Procurement has charged government agencies in the state to adhere strictly to procurement law in the execution of projects to encourage accountability.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the committee made the call when it visited the management of Anambra State Oxygen Production Plant at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, as part of its oversight responsibilities.
The committee, which spoke through its chairman, Honorable Chuka Ezenwune explained that the exercise is designed to ensure that the agencies work in accordance to Procurement Law to encourage good public accounting system.
He also commended the agency for living up to expectations by providing them with all the relevant documents that enabled them to do a thorough job.
The committee also called on other agencies to be prepared for the exercise as it will not tolerate excuses.
In his remark, the Managing Director, Anambra State Oxygen Production Plant, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim told the committee that the agency has lived above board in the supply of medical oxygen to COVID-19 protection centers and hospitals across the state.
Dr. Ibezim commended Governor Willie Obiano for establishing the Oxygen Plant which according to him plays a crucial role in the management of COVID-19 patients, confirming that the visit has strengthened the agency.
