Residents of Anambra State have been charged to always take full ownership of government projects and facilities in their domain for sustainability.

 

The Commissioner for Water Resources and Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, gave the charge at a workshop held in Awka, organized by Evidence and Collaboration for Inclusive Development ECID/Justice Development and Peace Commission, JPDC on awareness creation and policy education on Health and Education for target groups.

 

The Commissioner was represented by the Acting Director in the Water Resources Department and Public Utilities, Mr Victor Ezekwo who said that government is about people and getting from the people the real situation of things.

He told the participants that the Governor Willie Obiano administration’s desire is to make water available for every Community in Anambra state.

 

In his remarks, the Program Manager Evidence and Collaboration for Inclusive Development, ECID, Mr Alphonsus Nwoye, asked the participants to take the information garnered from the workshop to the grassroot to engender societal peace and progress.

 

In a presentation, the JDPC Project Officer, Mr Shedrack Nwekeagu, said Ward Development Committee, WDC aids in identifying health and social needs of the communities in the ward and plan towards meeting those needs.

 

Also speaking, one of the facilitators, Mrs Cynthia Arinze, who spoke on Monitoring and Reporting, emphasized on the importance of regular monitoring and reporting of ongoing projects sited in their communities until they are completed.

 

In her comments, the Focal Person, Christian Aid, Mrs Uzo Uzoma, thanked the participants for their impressive turnout noting  that it is an indication that the development of their communities is important to them.

 

Some of the participants who spoke with the ABS,  including Mr John Udemezue and Mrs Mercy Chukwudifu, described the workshop as an eye-opener which has opened their eyes to their responsibilities  as citizens of the state and called for more government presence in their communities.
