The National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Chief Titus Akpudo, has described the grassroots security architecture entrenched by the present administration as an unprecedented example that must be sustained.

Chief Akpudo who stated this in his office while fielding  questions from journalists, noted that the right attention has been given to rural security hence a strong network that has strengthened crime elimination in Anambra State.

Assessing the rural security framework in the last seven years of the Willie Obiano administration, the ASATU National President, observed that by equipping the local vigilante groups and paying the salaries of twenty of their members per community, the state government has instituted a strong complementary crime watchdog that supports other crime fighting institutions like the police and the military.

Chief Akpudo who is also the President General of Eziowelle Improvement Union, EIU, said that the present administration has made significant improvement in security, a trend that threatened the serenity of the state before the onset of the current regime.

He however called for a regular capacity building  in the rural security structure to help it adapt to modern crime fighting pattern and to also boost the morale of the vigilante members.

The ASATU chief also noted that the next administration in the state must consolidate  area of security so that Anambra State would continue to be a model among other states in the country.
