A former Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Mr Ben Egbuna has been buried at his country home in Adagbe Avomimi Village, Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state.
Aged seventy-one, Mr. Egbuna passed on in the early hours of Saturday, January 30, 2021.
Our Correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the deceased was a devout Catholic, married to Mrs Beatrice Egbuna forty years ago and was blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.
The requiem mass of late Mr. Egbuna held at Saint Benedict’s Catholic Church Enugwu-ukwu attracted arrays of sympathizers from within and outside the state, including Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, represented by First Female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, Professor Stella Okunna, and the Director General FRCN, Mallam Mansiu Lihman represented by the Enugu Zonal Director FRCN, Pastor Emma Inegbidom, veteran broadcasters and top echelons in the media industry.
Members of Enugwu Ukwu community however were fully on ground to pay final respect to Late Mr. Egbuna, including family, in-laws, friends and well-wishers.
Commiserating with the bereaved family in a tribute after the interment, the Director General FRCN, Mallam Lihman, said that Mr Egbuna made positive impact and impressive transformation within few years as Director General which proved that he was a man of vision and on a mission.
In his tribute, the Director General Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu, described the veteran broadcaster as uncommon charitable person who designed the broadcast line of Voice of Nigeria and left indelible footprint on the sands of time.
Also speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr. Uche Nworah, who expressed grief over the loss of his uncle, said though Egbuna’s demise was unfortunate, he was a role model and inspiration to him, praying God to grant him eternal rest.
Earlier in a homily, Reverend Father Paul Dim-Ude of Saint Michael’s Parish Nkpologwu, reminded the church that it is appointed unto all mortals once to die after which judgment follows.
The first son of the deceased, Mr. Uche Egbuna, who spoke on behalf of the family said that his late father was an outstanding man of truth and a core disciplinarian who has set the platform for them to strive for the best wherever they find themselves and thanked those who contributed in giving his father a befitting burial, assuring that he will follow the footprint of his late dad.
Condolence visits, dance by different age grades and masquerades displayed featured at the event.
