The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State and founder of the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano, has urged the over three hundred persons who just completed a four-month intensive training in different skills under her empowerment programme, to tap into the opportunity and become a model of financial independence in their communities.
Dr Obiano stated this while addressing the latest trainees who had been learning different vocations at the Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The free training began last year, but was temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Correspondent, Daniel Ezeigwe reports that while addressing the students at the end of their training Dr Obiano, who was represented by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Emeka Ozumba, said that through the programme, along with other CAFE-backed initiatives, she is creating a social paradigm for human capacity development.
The Governor’s wife also urged the trainees to use the opportunity the programme offers and invest in themselves with the start-up capital and equipment that would be given to them.
She reminded the trainees of her keen desire to see them succeed in their different ventures, and implored them to be magnanimous with their expertise by training other people.
Among the trainees were seventy-five-year old Mrs Eunice Anumba from Uga, in Aguata Local Government Area, and a sixty-year-old Mrs Gladys Anero from Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area, both of whom learned tailoring, and described their experience during the training as worthwhile and value-oriented, and pledged to make profitable use of the lessons of the programme.
Other trainees, Mr Chisom Ekwunife from the confectionery class, Miss Ruth Iyioku who hails from Ihiala and learned the same vocation and Mrs Nwakaego Nnacho from Olumnanasa, Anambra West, also of the confectionery class, said that the governor’s wife has given them an opportunity of a lifetime and promised to pay her back with productivity.
The over three hundred persons, mainly youths, widows, the physically challenged and less privileged, would after completing the mandatory three weeks training, receive startup capital and equipment free.
The skills aquired by the trainees include tailoring and fashion design, confectionery, computer and phone repair, hairdressing, decoration, bead and soap making, make-over and others.
Recall that CAFE has trained and empowered more than five thousand five hundred persons since it became a registered non-governmental body in August, 2014.
