A woman has died while property worth  millions of naira were razed down following a fire outbreak at Douglas/Clinton Street, Off Menax Area, Odoakpu, Onitsha, where foams are mostly sold.

ABS reporter who visited the scene gathered that the inferno was as a result of  a spark from electric pole which extended to foams packed along the area and buildings.

Four buildings, a car, two tricycles and about twelve shops were burnt while people living in the affected buildings were also rendered homeless.

Speaking to the ABS, one of the residents of the affected buildings, Mr Chimagozigom Okeke attributed the cause of the fire to wrong electric connection.

On his part, the Chairman of Foam Dealers Association, Mr. John Okafor and the Vice Chairman, Mr. Cornelius Okeke who were victims, pleaded for government’s assistance to enable them start life a fresh.

Some of the affected women including Mrs Nkiruka Anene and Amaka Ubadiya who expressed grief over their losses, called on public spirited individuals to come to their aid considering the prevailing economic hardship in the Country.

A vigilante in the area Mr. Adamu Attah, recounted efforts to control the fire but regretted that the goods, mostly foams helped the fire to escalate to other buildings in the area.

He intimated also that a middle aged woman Mrs. Nnajiofor from Abba, who jumped from a two storey building, sustained an injury and died in the hospital.

It was further gathered from the residents that prompt response of Anambra State Fire Service prevented the fire from razing down the whole area.
