The Nigeria Volleyball Federation, NVF Board Member representing South-East geopolitical zone, Mrs Philomena Agusiobo has in conjunction with Anambra State Sports Development Commission organized volleyball tournament for players in the zone as part of efforts towards unburdening talents in volleyball world, and championing same to compete favourably in international level.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that South-East states participating in the two day tournament holding at Dr Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, are Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo states.

Speaking to newsmen, the state Commissioner for Housing, Architect Mike Okonkwo who represented the state government at the event said that the Obiano government will keep investing in sports, and identifying and harnessing young talents in the world of sports.

On  her part, the Nigeria Volleyball Federation Board Member representing South-East and the organizer of the event, Mrs Agusiobo thanked Governor Willie Obiano and the Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Tony Oli for their efforts in championing sports in the state,  as well as  for partnering her to make the volleyball tournament a reality.

Explaining that the zonal tournament is aimed at developing talents of volleyball players in the zone to make them best in Nigeria and beyond, Mrs Agusiobo identified funding as the major challenge facing them and called on well to individuals and groups in the South-East zone to assist them attain   greater height.

In  various interviews, the Chairman Nigeria Volleyball Coaches Association, Mr Musa Baba-Musa, and the Coordinator in charge of Volleyball Coaches in South-East zone, Mr Obi Osai pointed out that South-East has over the years produced wonderful national volleyball players, and expressed hope that through the tournament, more talented players that will represent South-East and Nigeria in international competitions will emerge.

The final game will be played today at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square.
