A faith-based charity, Nelvia foundation is selecting ten indigent widows monthly , starting from March, 2021. The first batch of these widows in its monthly empowerment programme for the less privileged; was held yesterday March 2021.
Nelvia Foundation, is a religious-based non-governmental body with the primary aim of providing moral, spiritual and physical support to poor widows and less privileged children.
The empowerment, seventh in the series was held at Redeemed Christian Church of God, Open Heaven Parish, Amichi, Nnewi South Local Council Area, and was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of widows and less privileged children from the area.
The foundation has paid off school fees of twenty five poor children out of the fifty-six selected so far for the empowerment this year.
In an interview, the founder of Nelvia Foundation, Evangelist Winnie Okafor, also a widow, said that she set up the foundation through the inspiration of God to extend a helping hands to the poor widows and orphans, stressing that widowhood is not a curse or an excuse to be lazy.
She also urged them to use what they have been given to achieve self-reliance noting that more persons will benefit in subsequent editions.
Delivering a brief sermon shortly before the programme, the Coordinator of the foundation, Pastor Hope Unaka, urged the benefiting widows to always live in love and harmony and to also be more committed to the things of God.
Pastor Unaka also stated that the foundation focused on humanity’s lacks by uplifting the indigent through charity and urged other privileged members of the society to emulate the benefactor.
In their remarks, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Nwanne Okafor, Caroline Ikegwuonwu and Ebele Okeke, who spoke of how tough life had become after the demise of their husbands, thanked God for the foundation and described it as an answer to their prayers.
Some less privileged children, Obumneme Anyaoha, Precious Boniface and Oluebube Odoh, who had their school fees cleared courtesy of the foundation, thanked the benefactor for her benevolence.
