Governor Willie Obiano has recognized engineering profession as one of major contributors to technological, environmental and infrastructural development in the state.
The recognition came during the investiture of Engineer Odinaka Okonkwo as the twelfth chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers Awka Branch.

Congratulating the chairman elect, Governor Obiano represented by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Architect Willie Okafor described the Aku-Luo-Uno Initiative as the main thrust of development in Anambra State, which according to him, has inspired Ndi Anambra to bring home their investments.
While recognizing Engineers as key influencers of innovations and inventions that shape the society, the chairman on the occasion and National President, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engineer Babagana Mohammed, who spoke through Engineer Ofodile commended the contributions of the outgoing chairman, Engineer Martin Agbili and enjoined Engineer Okonkwo not to relent in carrying out his duties and strongly upholding the ethics of the profession.
Responding, Engineer Okonkwo thanked members of the association and all, who came to grace the occasion praying for wisdom to move the association to greater heights.
Speaking later, the out going Chairman, Engineer Agbili, who attested to the capability and versatility of the new chairman, appreciated all, for their support during his tenure and solicited same for the new administration.
In their separate reactions , the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Obiano on Housing Development, Honourable ThankGod Ibeh and the Head of Engineering Department ABS, Engineer Paul Okoye congratulated the new chairman and his executive praying for divine guidance and wisdom to enable them to stand out as uncommon achievers.
The event attracted engineers from around the nation who gathered for the investiture.
