Twenty-five years anniversary of Idemili South Local Government was a moment of joy and stock taking for the authorities and employees of the council area.

It attracted illustrious sons and daughters from different towns that make up the council area, who were given awards for their outstanding contributions to the development of their towns, including the member representing Idemili South at the state Assembly, Honourable Chika Ezenwune, the traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu and his Nnobi counterpart, Igwe Nick Obi among others.

In a welcome address, the Transition Committee chairman, Idemili South Council Area, Honourable Don Unachukwu said he deemed it fit to organize the celebration, which is first of its kind due to the achievements recorded in the council area in the past twenty-five years.

Honnourable Unachukwu maintained that the development of a local government depends on the personality on the hem of affairs, adding that he was able to achieve a lot through humility, listening ear and ability to bow to superior opinion and urged the employees not to relent in their works.

In a remark, the chairman on the occasion, Chief Donatus Anozie, who recalled the role he played in the creation of the local government, made a clarion call to affluent individuals from the area to join hands in its development.

Others who spoke during the event, including the President General of Oba Patriotic Union, Reverend Chris Emelie and chairman, Planning Committee, Honourable Nnaemeka Orji thanked God for the journey so, calling for autonomy of local government in Nigeria.

Earlier in a lecture titled “Idemili South Local Government Area: The Journey So Far” Professor Charity Emelie of the Law Faculty, Chukwuemeka Odummegwu Ojukwu University, dissected the background to the creation of local government and history of Idemili South local government area.

Some of the awardees were Honourable Sylva Abasilim, first elected chairman of the council, Bishop Owen Nwokolo as well as a post humus award to Igwe Gabriel Ezekwem of Nnokwa among others.
