Anthony Emenihu Ononuju was born in 1947 into the family of Mr Ononuju Ubabunike (Onye Nwas) and Mrs. Josephine Nwataku Ononuju. Anthony attended Saint Michael’s Eziora where he obtained standard six.
He went to Joseph Nwosu from Umeuezu for apprenticeship on timber. Later, during the civil war, Anthony Ononuju was conscripted into the Army. After the war, he came back and continued with his master, Chief Joseph Nwosu (Eze Nnaoma) of blessed memory.
From Onitsha, Anthony Ononuju proceeded to Auchi in the old Bendel state where he met his wife, Lolo Chinyere Patience Ononuju from Chokoneze, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government of Imo State. Chief Anthony Ononuju’s marriage to Lolo Patience Chinyere was blessed with 9 children – seven boys and 2 girls.
As a hardworking man in search of greener pasture, Chief Anthony Emenihu Chukwulelu Ononuju travelled to Gambora Ngola in Bornu state and continued with his timber business. He extended his tentacles to Chad to make both ends meet.
Chief Anthony Ononuju is a devout Christian and a disciplinarian per excellence. He worked hard to train his children through primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.
He was in Gambimu Ngala struggling and praying to God to see to the upbringing of his children until the escalation of Boko Harram crises when he finally relocated to Ozubulu in 2011.
He engaged in farming to sustain his family. This, he was doing, until he fell sick in 2014. Even in sick bed, his faith in God continued to wax stronger as he prayed his rosary every morning and evening while cry to God to have mercy and deliver him from the sickness.
Chief Anthony Ononuju fought hard to live, bearing the pains of his sickness and calling on Saint Anthony of Padua and Mother Mary to intercede for him until death came calling on March 9, 2021. He gave up the ghost in the hospital at exactly 5am.
He will be buried tomorrow April 16, 2021 at his compound, Ezenwelike Eziora Ozubulu. Left to mourn him are: Mrs. Ebere Anastasia Mbah – Daughter, Engineer Chris Ndubusi Ononuju – Son; Mr. Benjamin Ononuju – Son; Mr. Kenechukwu James Ononuju – Son; Mr. Chidi John Ononuju – Son; Jude Nwabueze Ononuju – Son; Ejuke Beman Ononuju – Son; Chinedu Emmanuel Ononuju – son and Dr. Judith Ujunwa Chukumma – Daughter.
Daddy, may your soul rest in perfect peace Amen. Adieu.
